Pupils and staff at a south Birmingham school faced a lockdown this lunch time (Friday 17th July) when police were called to reports of a violent disorder nearby. 

Pupils and staff were asked to remain inside Shenley Academy while police arrested two men on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply.

The situation was quickly resolved with students allowed to leave and police in the area for reassurance. West Midlands Police thanked the school staff, students and parents for their support.

A police spokesman said: “Two men have been arrested after we responded quickly to reports of disorder in Weoley Castle, Birmingham, shortly after 12pm today (17 July).

“A car suspected of being involved was stopped, and a large quantity of suspected Class A and B drugs were recovered.

“The men, aged 23 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, and possession with intent to supply drugs. Both remain in custody.

“During our response to this incident, we liaised closely with a local school and thank staff, pupils, and parents for their patience and support.”
