A Northfield teenager has been back ‘in uniform’, 12 years after an amazing Make-a-Wish experience as a toddler.
16-year-old Persian Dutton had been battling kidney cancer for two years when he visited West Midlands Police Tally Ho facility for a special treat – a day as a police officer!
Persian, then just 4-years-old, loved everything police and, after meeting George Homer and Mel Foxhall, the then Northfield PSCOs arranged the visit with the Make A Wish Foundation.
The day was a special one, with Persian donning a police ‘uniform’ and meeting police dogs, sitting in police vehicles and even getting a visit from the police helicopter!
Twelve years later, Persian and Kate remain huge supporters of their local neighbourhood policing team.
They were delighted to bump into their local PCSOs again at a meet and greet event in Frankley last week and Persian got to put the uniform back on and relive those magical memories.
His mum Kate said: “He’s always loved the police, even as a toddler, but after that incredible day they gave him while he was poorly, he’s been completely obsessed.
“Seeing him back in uniform after all these years was so emotional.
“That special day left such a positive mark on him during such a tough time. It felt like everything had come full circle and reminded us just how kind and supportive those officers were.”
