Two men have today been arrested after a man suffered a broken leg following a hit-and-run collision involving a van and a pedestrian in Stirchley on Thursday night (14th May).

The collision in Mayfield Road happened following clashes between a group of flag raisers and local residents in Pershore Road.

The van failed to stop at the scene but was recovered close by on Prince Road. Investigators are examining the vehicle and viewing CCTV and social media footage to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

The first arrest happened close to Euston Station this morning (Saturday 16th May). Metropolitan Police officers spotted a 44-year-old man wanted for questioning by West Midlands Police in regards to the incident as he arrived to take part in the Unite the Kingdom protest.

A second man (52) was arrested this evening in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police confirmed that both men are currently in custody on suspicion of wounding and will remain as enquiries continue.
