A Bournville-inspired bull is to join other sculptures that will be on show around Birmingham city centre as part of a fantastic new charity art trail launching this summer.

The design of the bull sculpture will showcase all the things people think make the Bournville estate, managed by Bournville Village Trust, so special.

Bournville Village Trust will be taking the bull on a tour of the neighbourhoods it works in south Birmingham and Telford so it can hear people’s views and incorporate these into the design.

Once designed, the Bournville bull will become part of Wild in Art’s new Bulls in the City art trail, which this year is supporting Birmingham Hospice.

India Wilson, Heritage Officer at Bournville Village Trust, said: “We are so excited to be taking part in this year’s Wild in Art trail based on the iconic bronze Bullring bull designed by Laurence Broderick.

“As a community-based charitable trust we want the Bournville bull to reflect the neighbourhoods we work in and the communities we work with. So, we’ll be taking it out into neighbourhoods like Shenley, Northfield, Bournville, Weoley and Telford, to hear what people really love about where they live.

“All the details of how to get involved will be on our website and we can’t wait to meet lots of people and to get started on designing a colourful and vibrant Bournville bull.”

Arthur Tsang, Director of Communities at Bournville Village Trust, said: “It’s a real honour to support Wild in Art’s latest art trail. Not only will it bring free art onto the streets for all to enjoy but it will also raise awareness of the important care our close neighbours at Birmingham Hospice in Selly Oak provide to the people of Birmingham and their loved ones.

“As it’s Bournville Village Trust’s 125th anniversary this year, we would like to see at least 125 people share their views on where they live and help shape the final design of the Bournville bull.”

Once decorated the Bournville bull will go on display, along with many other wonderful sculptures, in Birmingham city centre for the summer before returning to Bournville.

The Bulls in the City trail will continue Wild in Art’s mission to bring art out of galleries, with the individually decorated sculptures creating a free, family-friendly journey of discovery around the city.

At the end of the trail, large bull sculptures will be auctioned off to raise vital funds for Birmingham Hospice. It costs around £16 million to run Birmingham Hospice each year, 40% of which must be covered through fundraising activity.

Money raised through the trail will make sure more people get the vital care and support they need at the end of life.
