West Midlands Police confirmed that a man was arrested following an alleged firearms incident in Longbridge yesterday (Monday 5th February).

Officers – including firearms units – flooded the area at around 5pm after reports that a man was assaulted and threatened with a firearm.

Central Avenue was closed for several hours following the incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police (WMP) confirmed that a man, 37, had been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and assault.

The full statement from WMP reads: “We were called to an address in Central Avenue, Birmingham just before 5pm yesterday (5 February) following reports of a disorder in which a man was assaulted and threatened with a firearm.

“We arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and assault.

“He has been released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.”
