West Midlands Fire service’s (WMFS) firefighters faced a ‘severe’ fire at a block of flats in Northfield (8th June).
Shortly after 4pm on Wednesday, WMFS were alerted to a fire in a three-storey block of flats in Overbury Road, Northfield.
Firefighters from Northfield, Kings Norton and Bournbrook fire stations attended the blaze.
They led fifteen people and two dogs to safety, all of whom needed rehousing because of damage to the staircase.

The fire involved the block’s central staircase, the smoke from which affected six flats.
It was confirmed to be out by around 5.15pm and resources at the scene were scaled down to two fire engines.
A spokesperson for WMFS said firefighters were: “met with a severe fire on the ground floor of the block.”
“Those led to safety were assessed by firefighters and the ambulance service, and some were given oxygen therapy.”
Investigations into how the fire started continue.
