A Birmingham-based hospice charity is offering residents of the city and surrounding areas a quick, easy and environmentally-friendly way to get rid of their Christmas tree this January – all while raising essential funds to support people living with life-limiting illness and their families.
Birmingham St Mary’s and John Taylor Hospices – who together form The Hospice Charity Partnership – will be Treecycling together for the first time this year on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 January.
The campaign will see volunteers collect thousands of real Christmas trees from people’s doorsteps, in exchange for a donation, to support the charity’s work in the local community. Collected trees will be recycled into compost and biomass fuel – a much more eco-friendly solution than sending trees to landfill.

The charity is expecting to collect over 5,000 trees from postcodes across Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull, and is hoping to raise over £90,000.
Charlotte Dowling, Senior Community and Corporate Fundraising Manager at The Hospice Charity Partnership, said: “After a busy festive period, thinking about how to get rid of your Christmas tree is the last thing on your mind, so that’s where our Treecyling volunteers step in. They will be on hand to collect your used Christmas tree directly from your doorstep, saving you the time and effort it would take to dispose of it yourself at your local tip.
“Last year we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Treecycling campaign and we were overwhelmed with the support from the local community. This year it’s our first year Treecycling as The Hospice Charity Partnership – so we’re going bigger than ever with more postcodes included and more trees to collect. We’re hoping to raise even more funds to provide expert palliative and end of life care, and offer that support free of charge for those who need it.”
Every year the campaign is supported by local businesses, with organisations kindly donating vans, people and resources, meaning that every pound donated goes directly towards providing essential services for patients and their families.
Postcodes for this year’s Treecycling campaign are: B13, B14, B15, B16, B17, B23, B24, B25, B26, B27, B28, B29, B30, B31, B32, B38, B45, B47, B48, B62, B67, B68, B72, B73, B76, B90, B91, B92, B93 and B94.
