As part of our 2024 General Election coverage, we have contacted each candidate standing in Northfield, Bromsgrove, Edgbaston and Selly Oak constituencies asking them to contribute to this election’s ‘500 Words’ series. We have also asked the same of each candidate in the local council by-elections for Northfield and Kings Norton North wards.

Each candidate has been invited to describe themselves and their campaigns in their own words. Their submissions will be published without editing, in the order that they are received. Should they be longer than 500 words, they will be cropped.

This seat will not determine who is in Government. But your vote will determine who will stand up for you locally.

The choice is clear. You can vote for me, Gary Sambrook, who, since being elected in 2019, has secured millions in investment, created new jobs on the old MG Rover site, improved transport, and stood up to the council. OR a Labour candidate from Oxford, who doesn’t know our area and will take us back to the 27 years of Labour neglect where you are taken for granted again.

You can have a guy from Nottingham living in Oxford, working in London. Or you can have a Brummie who lives in Longbridge, with a proud record of getting things done locally and standing up for us in Westminster.

In just under five years, I have achieved:

Standing up to the council and stopping the unwanted Bristol Road bus lane.

Bringing regeneration to the old MG Rover West Works site, delivering millions more in investment and creating thousands of local jobs.

Securing the money to build two new schools, and a 400-place SEND school, improving local education here in our community.

Backing local residents all the way, helping with 34,000 cases in just under four years. From potholes to crime, from housing to securing the final pay cheques of the former MG Rover workers.

In Birmingham, we already know what life under Labour is like. The Labour-run council has effectively bankrupted our city.
They have raised our council tax by 21%, reduced bin collections to every two weeks, and scrapped local services such as our libraries and day centres. Our grass verges go uncut, our bins go uncollected, our public buildings fall into disrepair.

While they spend our taxpayer money on failed IT systems, they take no action on equal pay, running up a bill to hundreds of millions and then lumbering us, the residents of the city, with the consequences.

If this is what they do to our city, imagine what they will do to our country. I will continue doing all I can to hold this failing council to account, hold the next Government to account, and most importantly stand up for Birmingham Northfield.

So, let’s not risk the progress we’ve made locally. Re-elect me so we can:

Regenerate Our High Street’s, we’ve made great progress in Longbridge, but next on my hit list is Northfield and Weoley. Plus The Green and our smaller shopping areas like Fairfax Shops and Arden Road.

Tackle crime and anti-social behaviour by securing more police based locally in the community rather than in central offices.

Stand up for our community against the Labour-run bankrupt council who are cutting our services while putting up our tax.

Your vote could be the decider in this election. It’s a clear two-horse race and I can do it, just like we pulled it off in 2019. If elected again, I will keep on working day and night to keep delivering for you. Don’t risk it. Vote for me, Gary Sambrook, on the 4th of July.
