Details of waste and recycling collections in Birmingham over the Christmas and new year period have been announced.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Details of rescheduled collection days can be found here: Christmas Collections
Cllr Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “When making arrangements for waste collection over Christmas and the new year we always aim to strike a balance between providing a service and ensuring that our hardworking crews get time with their families and loved ones.
“Traditionally crews have never worked Christmas Day or Boxing Day, but overtime is generally offered for New Year’s Day. However, given the council’s precarious financial position this has not been possible this year. Unfortunately, this means that some households will have a longer than normal period between collections, though we have sought to minimise the impact as best we can.
“As is always the case during this time, reasonable amounts of side waste (2 to 3 sacks per household) will be collected on general waste days, along with neatly bundled cardboard on recycling days. Additionally, the city’s network of Household Recycling Centres will be open every day except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I would urge everyone to check out what is scheduled for them over the holiday period.”
