Local residents and businesses come together to make the first ‘B45 Big Community Clean Up’ a sparkling success.
Nobody likes rubbish and nobody likes cleaning up other peoples rubbish, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough and do something about it, which is exactly what people spent Easter Saturday doing.
Armed with pickers, bin bags and community spirit, local residents, community groups and businesses such as Morrisons and McDonalds collectively gathered an incredible 248 big bags of litter and an unmeasurable amount of fly tipping moved for collection from streets and parks in our community.

“Break down of bags for the litter picking groups below:
Rubery Wombles = 83 bags of litter, plus loads of fly tipping removed.
Rednal Litter Busters = 78 bags of litter, plus various cones and fly tipping removed.
Great Park Community Litter Pickers = 58 bags of litter, 11 Morrisons trolleys and masses of other fly tipping removed.
Frankley Litter Pickers = 29 bags of litter, a whole sofa suite, and the biggest pile of fly tipping I’ve ever seen!
The oldest piece of litter found was in Frankley, a packet of Strollers from 1991 😱 and a beer can from 2003 in Whetty Lane 😱
The strangest piece of litter found was a dinosaur head mask and a bag of cannabis 😱
The Lickey Hills Rangers kindly went round collecting 115 of the bags of litter, and a quarter of a ton of loose rubbish (fly tipping) and asked us to thank all of the volunteers because frankly, it saves them a huge job!
