Mortons Funeral Directors invite people across the community to submit Memorial Stars for loved ones ahead of their annual Tree of Light Memorial Service, which will be available to watch online from Sunday, 14th December.
Mortons are once again hosting their Tree of Light Memorial Service, an annual online event that brings families together in a shared moment of remembrance. The service provides an opportunity to reflect, remember and honour the lives of those we have loved and lost. It is open to everyone and not limited to the families Mortons has cared for in the past.
A special part of this tradition is the writing of Memorial Stars. Members of the community are encouraged to submit messages through Mortons’ website, mortonstreeoflight.co.uk, and each message is then carefully handwritten by the Mortons team and placed on their illuminated Christmas tree at their Northfield premises.
This year’s service includes reflections from the Mortons team, contributions from clergy and a civil celebrant, performances from a local choir and traditional Christmas carols performed by The Salvation Army Band.
This year, the first Memorial Stars were written by those who joined us at our in-person star writing events.
“Throughout the year, we are privileged to support families through some of their most difficult moments. The Tree of Light Memorial Service is a way for us all to pause and remember the people who are no longer with us, whether that loss is recent or long ago.
“We are honoured to place each Memorial Star with care, knowing how much every message means to the person who has written it. The service brings people together at a time when many feel the absence of someone they love, and we hope it offers a moment of quiet reflection and comfort.”
Last year, more than 1,500 Memorial Stars were placed on the Tree of Light, written both in person and online. This year, Mortons are once again welcoming online submissions through December, with each star carefully handwritten by a member of the team and placed on their tree.
While there is no charge to place a star, the Tree of Light Memorial Service supports
Birmingham Mind, and Mortons will also make a donation to the Salvation Army, Droitwich Corps, in recognition of their contribution to the service.
