Colmers School and Sixth Form College have released a statement paying tribute to a ‘deeply loved’ pupil who “…brought light and character” to the school community after he tragically died in a pool in Sutton Park yesterday (Thursday 10th July). Â
Year 11 pupil Daniel Drewitt, 16, went missing in the pool in the Sutton Coldfield park, just after 6pm yesterday evening. Sadly, despite extensive efforts by all emergency services – including personnel from West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service, and Birmingham City Council – Daniel’s body was recovered from the water just after 10pm.
Daniel’s death is not being treated as suspicious and police are liaising with the coroner.
West Midlands Police are supporting Daniel’s family and have asked that they are given privacy at this heartbreaking time. Our thoughts go out to them and all who knew Daniel.
The statement from Colmers School reads: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Daniel Drewitt, a Year 11 student at Colmers School, who tragically died yesterday evening.
“Daniel was a young man who brought light and character to our entire school community; he was confident, full of life, a talented sportsman, and so deeply loved by staff and fellow pupils alike. His warm presence and positive spirit will be sorely missed.
“We are doing all we can to support our school community during this incredibly difficult time. Our pastoral team, school counsellors, and senior staff are working together to provide dedicated spaces and support for both students and staff. This includes opportunities for quiet reflection, one-to-one conversations, and access to emotional and wellbeing support throughout the days and weeks ahead.
“We know how deeply this loss will be felt by many, and we are committed to ensuring no member of our school community feels alone in their grief.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Daniel’s family. We ask urgent respect for their privacy at this profoundly difficult time.”
Our thoughts are with Daniel’s family, friends, school community and all who knew him.Â
