Residents in central and south Birmingham are being invited to help keep their neighbourhoods clean and green this spring by joining the UK’s biggest litter pick.
Bournville Village Trust (BVT) is taking part in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean throughout March and April.
The charity, which provides services to around 25,000 people, is inviting residents across Bournville, Nechells, Northfield and Shenley to join them on litter picks.
Litter picks will take place on:
- Thursday 27th March in Bournville, starting at Rowheath House, Heath Road, B30 1HH.
- Friday 28th March in Nechells, starting at Nechells Pod, Oliver Street, B7 4NX.
- Tuesday 1st April in Northfield, starting at Jervoise Drive, B31 2XU.
- Wednesday 2nd April in Shenley, starting at Shenley Court Hall, Green Meadow Road, B29 4ED.
All litter picks will run from 11am-1pm and bags and pickers will be provided. Residents are asked to bring their own gloves if they have these and to wear suitable footwear and clothes for the weather.
Joanne Deakin, Centre Co-ordinator at Bournville Village Trust’s Shenley Court Hall, which is supporting the Great British Spring Clean, said: “Last year 33 volunteers took part in our litter picking events for the Great British Spring Clean, collecting nearly 50 bags full of rubbish.
“We would love to encourage even more volunteers to join us this year and become litter heroes by picking up rubbish that isn’t just an eyesore but damages the environment. If you’d like to join us, please get in touch and we’ll make sure you have the equipment you need to take part.”

The Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign and runs from 21st March to 6th April.
In a YouGov survey carried out on Keep Britain Tidy’s behalf ahead of the Great British Spring Clean, more than 31.6 million people said ‘litter-free’ streets would help them love where they live. Whilst 72% of UK adults said seeing litter makes them less proud of their neighbourhood.

A far better idea would be for BVT to educate people who live here, NOT to drop so much litter in public areas, and to appreciate and take more pride in where they live?
