A number of homes were evacuated this morning (Sunday 23rd March) after ‘suspected old military ordnance was found in a Northfield garden.
Police cordoned off Farren Road at around 9am with some residents being advised to leave their homes temporarily.
A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed: “The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attended and made the device safe in a nearby field, shortly before 1pm.
“People living nearby were given safety advice and the road temporarily closed to allow easy access for emergency services.”
West Midlands Police advice if you suspect you have found an old explosive:
• do not touch it
• leave the item where it is – even if it looks old and rusty, it may still contain explosives and may therefore be dangerous
• phone 999 and ask for the police giving clear information about the location of the suspect item
• immediately follow the instructions of our staff on the phone and officers at the scene
