Families in Shenley are being invited to a free fun day to celebrate the neighbourhood’s history and heritage.
The event will take place on Tuesday 22nd April, 11am-3pm, at Shenley Court Hall and has been organised by Bournville Village Trust and Selly Manor Museum.
Families will be able to enjoy games, crafts, food and dress up in historical costumes and props before getting their photos taken.
And there will be the chance to share memories and stories of Shenley with staff from Selly Manor Museum and watch rare archive footage of Weoley and Shenley being built in 1949.
Children will also have the opportunity to enter an art competition to design a mural for the Hall on Green Meadow Road, which hosts a range of classes, clubs and activities.
Joanne Deakin, Centre Co-ordinator at Shenley Court Hall, managed by Bournville Village Trust, said: “We are so excited to be working with Selly Manor Museum to host our first ever Shenley Heritage Day.
“There will be lots to do and enjoy and we are really keen for people with memories and stories to come along and share these on the day.”
Louise Deakin, Heritage Engagement Officer at Selly Manor Museum, said: “The Shenley estate is an important part of Bournville Village Trust history- leading the way in post-war housing.
“At this family-friendly event there will be something for everyone of all ages to take part in, as we celebrate the people and community of Shenley. Come along and take part in the activities and tell us your stories.”
