Man who suffered a serious neck injury while playing rugby will be running the Great Birmingham Half Marathon to thank the wonderful Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Northfield.
After a serious rugby injury led to a fractured neck, further tests revealed Joel (Pictured in the middle) had Fibrous Dysplasia – a rare bone condition. He was referred to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, where he underwent complex spinal surgery to fuse his vertebrae and stabilise his neck. Reflecting on his care, Joel said: “The team at this hospital are amazing and deserve all the recognition they can get.”
Now, Joel is giving back. In May, he’ll run the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Half Marathon (21km) alongside his brothers Curtis & Mitchell and friends Graham, Paul, Lee, Tom, Sean and Connor to raise funds for the Royal Orthopaedic Charity.
