The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, made a wonderfully rare appearance across the region last night (10th May), thrilling local sky watchers.
The mesmerising lights, visible from not only Beacon Hill, but right across the country, and if you missed it you are likely to have a chance to see it again on Saturday night.
Why could we see them? Due to one of the strongest geomagnetic storms for years hitting Earth. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a rare solar storm warning.
If you didn’t see it – there is supposed to be an opportunity tonight too!
Not necessarily visible with the naked eye – but most camera phones on night mode or long shutter speed should work.
