West Midlands Police (WMP) are investigating after a driver died in a collision involving a car and a lorry on the M5.

Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) were called at just after 9.40pm last night (Tue) to the northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4.

WMAS dispatched two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor with critical care paramedic to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, crews found the driver of the car but sadly, it quickly became clear the patient could not be saved and so was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the lorry was not injured.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “The driver of the lorry is assisting with enquiries as our Serious Collision Investigation Unit work to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.”

Officers are asking that anyone who has dashcam footage from around the time of the collision to get in touch.

The carriageway was closed for a number of hours as the scene was forensically examined. It re-opened at around 8am.
