St. Modwen has launched initial proposals to transform the MG Longbridge site to create up to 1,000 new jobs and up to 695 homes.
The developer is inviting the local community to view the plans and give their feedback at a virtual exhibition from tomorrow (Tuesday 15th June).
The proposals will see the Lowhill Lane site — now vacated by MG UK — transformed into a green and tranquil new district of Longbridge with a distinct identity.
In a bid to protect the legacy of the site, heritage buildings where the Mini was conceived and created are being incorporated into the proposals. These will offer a variety of quality workspaces, from studios and maker spaces to offices and co-working environments, for a wide range of businesses.
St Modwen’s vision for the MG Longbridge site is to create a network of multi-use, complementary and well-connected work facilities and homes. The proposal will deliver a modern working environment with flexible community space and units for small businesses and start-ups alongside a diverse mix of high-quality homes enabling people to work and live in Longbridge.
Elliot Sellars, Development Director at St. Modwen said: “St Modwen is proud to call Longbridge home. Our HQ is based here and the staff working on this project all know Longbridge well. It is important to us, just as it will be important to the local community, to make sure these proposals deliver the jobs, open public space and homes Longbridge needs in a way that helps the area build back better.
“Our proposals for the MG Longbridge site aim to recognise the wonderful history of this area, retaining a number of heritage buildings and transforming them into the workspaces of the future. Alongside this, we will be seeking to deliver homes for future generations, to enable more people to live and work locally with access to the wide range of amenities readily available in Longbridge Town Centre.
“We’re now asking our neighbours and the residents of Longbridge to have their say on our plans so together we can deliver a proposal to submit to Birmingham City Council that reflects the heritage, identify and aspirations of Longbridge.”
With £1 billion already invested over the last ten years, Longbridge will be one of the largest regeneration schemes in the UK and will see St. Modwen make major progress towards delivering 10,000 new jobs and 2,800 new homes across this nationally significant brownfield site.
