A woman was seriously injured in a collision involving a stolen car in Northfield as she returned home from her NHS job yesterday evening (Thursday 2nd April).Â
West Midlands Police officers spotted a Mitsubishi – which was later found to be stolen –being driven erratically on Frankley Beeches Road at around 6.30pm. When the car failed to stop for police, officers initiated a pursuit.
However, within a minute, the Mitsubishi collided with a VW Golf at the Hoggs Lane junction.
The woman – in her 50s – suffered multiple serious injuries and was trapped in her car for around half an hour. She was freed from her car by West Midlands Fire Service crews and received treatment at the scene before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson confirmed that she remains in hospital today in ‘a stable condition’.
The driver of the Mistubishi attempted to flee the scene but was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious leg injuries.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a two-car collision at the junction of Hanging Lane and Frankley Beeches Road at 6.45pm last night. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene.
“On arrival we discovered two patients, the driver of each vehicle. One of them, a woman, was trapped for approximately 30 minutes as a result of the collision. She was treated for serious injuries before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on blue lights and sirens.”
