West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious incident in Northfield this morning in which a woman died.

A taxi driver called emergency services when a man stabbed a woman, who had been a passenger in his taxi, before fleeing the scene. Despite the best efforts of initial officers at the scene and paramedics the woman died from her injuries.

The incident took place at the junction of Dimsdale Road and Hoggs Lane in Northfield at around 8am this morning.

Locals took to twitter and facebook to find out what was happening with emergency services, including the air ambulance and armed police, quickly arriving at the scene.

Police are appealing for members of the public to get in touch if they think they may have seen anything, especially a man running from the scene.

DCI Wayne Jones, from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, said: “Officers have sealed off the scene of this incident, and are making significant enquiries in the local area, as we conduct searches for a man who we believe ran from the scene.

“We appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward as well as anyone who may have been in the area and seen a man running from the vicinity of Dimsdale Road and Hoggs Lane at around 8am today.”

Dimsdale Road, Hoggs Lane and Norrington Road remain closed as emergency services work at the scene and detectives begin forensic examinations.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, and speak to officers in the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Birmingham by dialling 101.

Officers have sealed off the scene of this incident and are making significant enquiries in the local area. We would ask that members of the local community respect the cordons currently in place and refrain from speculation relating to the incident.

Police are currently conducting extensive searches for a man who is believed to have ran from the scene.

We are aware of rumours in the community of the man being armed with a gun.
