A fire in electrical equipment under a Kings Norton street has left some homes and businesses without power this morning (Tuesday 23rd June).
West Midlands Fire Service were called to flames and smoke coming from a pavement at the corner of Northfield Road and Selly Oak Road just after 8.30am.
The fire was halted when Western Power Distribution cut supplies from the nearest electricity substation.
Just over 200 properties were left without power. As of 11.30am, WPD expect to have supplies restored by 3pm.
Local resident Dave Harte tweeted an image of the fire, saying: “Oh, pavement on fire, power out, Selly Oak road (corner of Northfield road), Kings Norton. “It kind of went ‘bang’ 10 minutes ago” reports excited neighbour.”

The telephone pole outside my house got hit by lightning last Wednesday in northfield. Took out me alarm my house phone router phone line and blew boiler up. Also blew connection box off wall for Internet BT are still here
