Fast food giant McDonald’s have dropped plans for a drive-thru store in Stirchley.
A consultation into proposals for a store at the junction of Pershore Road and Hazelwell Lane opened in November last year and were met with a mixed reaction from local residents.
Many felt the development would be a threat to the award winning independent high street of the suburb. A ‘Down with the Clown’ protest was staged and an online petition garnered 1800 signatures.
McDonald’s have now confirmed they will not be submitting a planning application for a store in Stirchley.
A spokesperson for the company told B14 News: “We have decided not to move forward with the Stirchley application, as with any site there are many factors that mean we might not go ahead and after further operational analysis here we have taken this decision.
“We look forward to exploring other opportunities to bring McDonald’s to the area in the future.”
