West Midlands Police (WMP) made an arrest after a woman and a four-year-old child were approached by a man in Longbridge yesterday (30th April).
It happened on Bristol Road South, at around 11.30am.
Local officers responded quickly and started a thorough investigation which included immediate local enquiries and a trawl of CCTV.
A WMP spokesperson said: “A man aged 63 was arrested shortly afterwards, and is currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of attempted child abduction.”
“Our enquiries have now established that no physical contact was made with the child.
Neither the woman or the child involved were hurt, and we are offering them our full support as the investigation progresses.”
“We understand how distressing this is for the community, but at this stage we still believe this to be an isolated incident.”
“Local officers are continuing to patrol the area for reassurance and we would urge anyone with concerns to speak to us.”
