The excellent Stage2 Youth Theatre have welcomed new staff and have launch a world premiere production.

Stage2 Youth Theatre, one of Birmingham’s longest-running and most established youth theatres is delighted to announce the beginning of a new term at its base, The Hub Hazelwell. On Sunday, the company welcomed their members back after the summer break to begin rehearsals for their world premier production of Buy Little Buy Less Buy Nothing At All, by Claire Dowie.

Founded in 1988, Stage2 has become one of Birmingham’s most respected youth theatres, renowned for its high-quality training in performance and stagecraft, as well as for providing a supportive environment where young people can grow in confidence, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships.

This Sunday (14th Sept) also marked the welcome of three new staff members to Stage2 Youth Theatre, including two former members returning to the company.

Stage2 Youth Theatre’s newest team members (L-R: Louis Delaney, Mark Shaun Walsh, Georgie Nott) join ahead of the company’s exciting new term

Mark Shaun Walsh joins Stage2 as Performances Manager and will lead the Over To You Workshop, which was developed in response to members’ growing interest in musical theatre and devising. Although new to the company, Mark is eager to bring his fresh perspective and experience to Stage2.

Louis Delaney, a former Stage2 member, who enjoyed a successful career in Stage2, achieving the highest grades in LAMDA Acting, Devising and Shakespeare and they also ran the Mentor Scheme, will be responsible for General Drama and Stage1 sessions this term.

Georgie Nott returns to the company as Production Manager, having spent nearly 10 years with the company previously. She looks forward to contributing her expertise and giving back to the company that played such an important role in her own development.

Stage2 is coming off the back of an extremely positive year and is hoping to grow even bigger in the Autumn. Membership rose to the highest it has been in nearly 10 years, which means that they are able to significantly expand their offerings. Stage2 has returned to its original tradition of putting on a full-scale production every term, for the first time since 2018, which started in Spring with Tales from Ovid and continued with their 5 star production of Jekyll and Hyde in Summer. After just about surviving COVID in an online format, the company is now absolutely thriving! They are well established in their new home at The Hub Hazelwell in Kings Heath, and offer 3 different workshop options each term, as well as the opportunity to be in a show every single term.

Membership Still Open!

Stage2 runs sessions on Sundays and the autumn term began on 14th September. Membership fees for a term are £190 for a first child, and then £150 for any subsequent siblings. Stage2 is proud to be the only youth theatre in the West Midlands that provides all members who require it with a financial subsidy for fees or any other aspect of Stage2 that costs money, believing that no one should ever be left out for any reason.

Although the term has already begun, Stage2 is still welcoming new members. Young people, who are interested, are invited to take part in a £10 taster session before committing to membership.
