A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after two pedestrians were seriously injured in a collision in Northfield this lunchtime (Monday 16th December).
The collision – involving one car and two pedestrians – happened on Sir Herbert Austin Way (A38), close to the Frankley Beeches Road junction, just before 1pm.
West Midlands Ambulance Service crews attended the two injured pedestrians who were found to have serious injuries. West Midlands Air Ambulance landed at nearby Hilltop Park.
Police confirmed one man had been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
A police spokesperson said: “We’re currently at the scene of a collision involving a car and pedestrians near the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and Sir Herbert Austin Way, Northfield.
“A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and will now be questioned.
“The road is likely to remain closed for some time and we’d ask people to avoid the area where possible.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of Bristol Road and Frankley Beeches Road in Northfield at 12.55pm.
“Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and two pedestrians had been involved in a collision.
“A man and woman were treated by medics for serious injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”
