The Environment Agency and Severn Trent water confirmed last week that discolouration of the River Rea in Longbridge was not due to raw sewage or any pollution.
A B31 Voices reader reported discolouration in the river at Tessall Lane, behind Longbridge train station on Wednesday 21st August. She had reported what she thought looked like raw sewage to both Severn Trent water company and the Environment Agency.
Teams from both organisations investigated and confirmed the following day that there was no pollution.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “We can confirm that there has been no sewage spill in the River Rea at Tessall Lane in Longbridge. A team carried out an investigation and tested the water and have confirmed that this is not connected to our network.”
The Environment Agency Midlands wrote on X: “We’ve investigated this report along with @stwater and no pollution was found.
They added: “Thank you to the person who reported this. Anyone can report a suspected pollution to our 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.”
