Fire crews remain on scene after a large barn fire at a Frankley farm this morning (Friday 16th August).

Calls to emergency services were received from around 2.30am and fire crews arrived to find a 10 metre x 30 metre hay storage barn fully ablaze  at a farm in Egghill Lane.

Five fire crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (Wyre Forest, Redditch & Bromsgrove) were joined by a West Midlands Fire Service crew from Northfield and a water carrier from Evesham to tackle the large blaze.

A spokesman for HWFRS said this morning: “The incident was sectorised and the fire was fought using three main jets and a hosereel jet. Egghill Lane was closed by police who also attended. The incident is being scaled back, with crews from Worcester and Droitwich attending as relief, but remains ongoing.”

Local residents were woken by sounds of banging and popping before realising the source.

One resident said: “I woke up to sounds of popping – first thought was fireworks, but it was continuous popping – and on looking out the window, saw an orange glow in the sky.”

Egghill Lane remained closed as of 8.30am. The spokesman confirmed that no people or animals were harmed.

West Mercia Police have been contacted for a statement.
