Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, has announced plans to re-develop land off Bristol Road South, Longbridge with a new food store.
The proposals would see the land next to McDonald’s car park regenerated into a spacious and modern retail environment after lying derelict for 20 years.
A public consultation launched Monday 20 November 2023 will run until Thursday 30 November 2023. Local residents can share their views several ways:

Commenting on the proposals Real Estate Director, Robin Williams, said: “We are thrilled to announce our plans for a new Aldi store in Longbridge, which feels long overdue. A new store here will create up to 50 jobs, provide high-quality low-cost products for local residents struggling during this cost-of-living crisis and revitalise the area.
“We want to hear from you, the local residents, about your thoughts, concerns, and ideas before we submit a planning application to Birmingham City Council. We encourage residents to visit our virtual public exhibition to find out more.”
With an investment of £7 million into the Longbridge community and the creation of up to 50 full-time jobs this new store will provide significant economic benefits. The jobs will be paid at Aldi’s industry-leading, and National Living Wage beating, £11.40.
Aldi champions convenience and this site is served by multiple bus services, accessible by foot, and has 112 free car parking spaces, including six parent-and-child bays and six accessible bays. EV users will have four EV charging points available with additional infrastructure installed for a further 20, if required.
The new store will provide a high-quality, comfortable retail environment with appealing landscaping across the site. To further ensure an excellent long-term appearance, Aldi only uses high-quality materials both inside and outside its building.

poor design there should not be another turning off the Bristol road next to Mcdonalds. The traffic queueing here at peak times is already bad due to inconsiderate drivers that block entrances. You need to use the road already built by the vets for Aldi and not another turning off Bristol Road. I found Aldi to be particularly poor in the goods it sells and anything fresh is going off as they put it on the shelf. Parking you need to double the size of the car park Aldi always builds little car parks which causes further problems on the roads.
Yes I am in agreement with other people we do need a cheaper supper market also i my self am looking for a job so this would be ideal I lost my mom and beloved dog with in two months of each other so need to get out and fined work
I would love an aldi in longbridge it would be so much closer for me cant wait to visit the new aldi longbridge
