Children’s chickens stamped on and killed in devastating attack at Northfield nursery

1

Staff at a nursery in Northfield were devastated to find their hand-reared chickens had been brutally killed when they arrived this morning (Monday 12th July).

The five hens – three brown and two white – were reared from eggs by children and staff and had been resident in the garden of Little Men and Little Misses Hollymoor for two years.

The chickens were fine on Sunday so it is believed they were attacked overnight.

A spokesperson for the nursery said there was no blood and the injuries and footprints on the bodies indicated the chickens had been killed at the hands of humans, rather than foxes or other predators.

She said: “At a time the country should have been coming together and celebrating England in the [Euro 2020] finals, some inhumane person thought it was acceptable to come into the Nursery garden and brutally attack and kill the Children’s chickens.

“We have spoken to the children this am and have explained they are on a little holiday.”

She added: “We are all devastated. We have reared these chickens from eggs and they were a huge part of our children’s nursery life and learning.”
