I’ve got to see first-hand how we have pulled together as a community, stepping up to the plate every day to help those in need. So it’s been an honour and a real privilege and to be able to nominate some of these local heroes for special recognition by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. To me these people prove that it really is people who make the real difference in this world, much more than any State, Council, or Government. You really are all champions of our community, please keep up the amazing work you do.”

For working incredibly hard during the 2020 pandemic, providing food parcels and nutritious meals to families across Frankley and South Birmingham who were struggling or self-isolating during Covid-19.
Pastor Stephen Merritt said: “We are delighted to receive this and it’s really on behalf of the community because we wouldn’t be able to do this work without the support of people in the community who give us the food. Hollywell School, Belfield School, and little stars nursery and lots of individuals who have donated so thank you so much.”

Farm to Family Meats
For providing good quality and affordable meat to local residents every Wednesday during the pandemic and kindly donating over 100 Kilos of meat to the local food bank right in the heart of the Frankley Community.
Founder Carl Wall Said:“I started out in March, trying to get local and get closer to home, to look after people and the communities that I was brought up on. It was nice to come close and local and everyone has helped me build up and supported me here. I’ve been helping people who cannot afford to eat and donating to the local food bank every week.”
Carl is at the Licky Banker Pub Every Wednesday from 8am – 9pm (Starting again from the 13th January).
CERT UK – Homeless Birmingham.
For working incredibly hard during the 2020 pandemic, providing food parcels and nutritious meals to families and the homeless across Birmingham who were struggling or self-isolating during Covid-19.
Owner and Founder Kenneth Lowry Said: “We help to support local communities, we help them with food parcels, and we help them with clothes, but our main aspect is we go into the city centre every Thursday to feed the homeless, we have a catering trailer that we get our on Christmas day.”

Chief Executive Marion Kenyon said: “In normal times we do furniture, but at the moment we are doing a lot of food parcels, so if you are struggling just get in touch with us and we will try and help you out as much as we can.”
South Birmingham Food Hub (FoodCycle).
For working incredibly hard during the 2020 pandemic, providing food parcels and nutritious meals to families across South Birmingham who were struggling or self-isolating during Covid-19.
Local Food Hub volunteers Kirsty and Jody said: “Since March we became a food hub to replace the community meals to combat loneliness. We have been sending out free food parcels to those who need them, covering B31 and B45. We have delivered 12,700 food parcels and that has taken 10,700 volunteer hours.”

For selling her things, doing a 5K run, and baking batches of delicious brownies to be delivered to all the heroes working to support others during the pandemic in South West Birmingham.
Kiki’s Mum Verity was over the moon saying: “Ahhhhhhhhhh amazing… I’m so so proud of Kiki. And well done to everyone else for giving their time to help others.”
