A former professional chef from Rubery has released a new book to raise funds for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Cancer Centre after his son received treatment there.

A retired chef and blogger, Paul runs the food and travel blog Recipes from My Travels, which helps to promote businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Paul said: “As a retired chef with a love of travel I wanted to combine my two passions and started the blog which combines the places I’ve been to with the local food and fayre of the area that I’ve travelled to.”

Paul has now taken the next step and released his first ebook Recipes from My Travels. The book is a photo diary of a trip he took to New York with youngest son Jay, and documents all of the restaurants and bars that the pair visited whilst in the Big Apple.

All royalties from the sale of the book will help to support patients at the Cancer Centre at the QEHB, inspired by the treatment that his eldest son, Mark, received there last year.

Mark, 27, was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma in March 2019 and is now in remission after receiving cutting-edge treatment at the QEHB Cancer Centre.

Paul already had a strong affinity to the hospital as his sister, Lorraine, works in the Endoscopy unit.

Paul said: “This book felt like a great way of celebrating the treatment that Mark received at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and the fact that we were able to enjoy such a great trip to the States together.

“I’m delighted to be donating the royalties to support the unit where he was treated. I cannot speak highly enough of the team at the Cancer Centre for the care that they showed to Mark when he was unwell.”

Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said “Huge thanks go to Paul for his generosity in donating the royalties from his book Recipes from My Travels to the Cancer Centre here at QEHB.

“It is so wonderful to hear him speak so highly of the treatment that Mark received at the hospital. We are proud to support our incredible clinicians who are on the forefront of the fight against cancer. With the support that we receive from our fundraisers and donors we fund research and cutting-edge equipment that has helped to make QEHB a world-leading hospital for cancer care.”
