Birmingham City Council (BCC) are urging residents to be respectful of neighbours and not burn garden rubbish.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, many services have been suspended to limit the spread of virus and protect employees and the public.
Waste and Recycling is one of the services affected.
Following Government advice regarding restrictions on non-essential travel, BCC closed all Household recycling centres (tips) until further notice and suspended Garden Waste services for new customers.
A spokesperson person for BCC said: “please be respectful of your neighbours and a need for clean air by not burning your garden rubbish”
“We recommend giving home-composting a try or keeping your garden rubbish to one side and waiting for the tips to reopen.
“Although it is not illegal to have a garden bonfire, there are laws against the nuisance they cause [report air pollution] which can result in fines of up to £5,000.”

I live on Shirley Rd in Acocks Green and we have been having to close our windows and doors due to the amount of garden fires that people keep lighting. The smell can be quite overwhelming at times.
Selfish and dangerous, to whoever it is around Bellfield/Oatlands who burns rubbish day and night, please think about people with respiratory problems and those isolating who may like to open a window for some fresh air.
