All Birmingham City Council (BCC) Household Recycling Centres have been closed until further notice in bid to help stop the spread of and protect employees and the public from COVID-19.
Bulky waste collections have also been suspended to allow crews to focus on household waste collection.
Subscribers to the garden waste service are advised to place the waste out in the brown bin as normal. However, BCC advise that, in order to maintain a reliable refuse collection service, it may be necessary for crews to mix it with the general waste collection.
Any household where an occupant has had symptoms of COVID-19 is asked to take extra precautions with their refuse. BCC advise that, according to government guidelines, waste should be double-bagged and tied and not put into the household bin for 72 hours. Advice from Veolia on how to deal with COVID-19 waste
Household recycling centre managers Veolia state:
• DO NOT dump your waste
Do not leave your recycling and waste at the entrance to the site or on the street – this will be treated as fly-tippingDO and you may be prosecuted.
• DO take your waste home with you
Take your recycling and waste home and store it securely until restrictions on non-essential travel are lifted.
