Fundraising for Kyle Sheehan (aka Shamz) has now reached over £5000.
Friends of Kyle, who died a week after being stabbed during a dispute in Bartley Green last month, and his family have rallied to raise funds towards his funeral.
Sam Newnes helped to organise a fundraising party which took place at TCs in Selly Oak on Friday night. More than 300 people attended, including Kyle’s mum Hayley. The event was a chance for people to get together with music and people rapping on the mic, food and a raffle. An astounding amount of just over £3000 was raised.
Old school friends hold prize draw
Old school friends of Kyle’s mother Hayley, including sisters Lucy Wyre and Michelle Spence, approached local businesses to arrange a prize draw to raise funds for Kyle.
Lucy and Michelle’s older sister Emma was one of the first on the scene following the incident which led to Kyle’s death and gave him first aid until emergency services arrived.
Asked why the group of friends decided to organise the draw Lucy said: “It was just a natural thing for us to do to try and send some comfort her way at this awful time. We are all mothers ourselves and what Hayley must be going through is unimaginable. We raised over £1100 in just 4 days, and had over 65 prizes ranging from meals out, to a prize to have a room in your house decorated and carpeted.
“It was just something to give back to the community who gave so generously. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of local businesses.” she added.
The draw was held at the Cock Inn in Jiggins Lane, Bartley Green on Friday and raised an amazing £1170.80
