The Northfield MP has provided an update on the King George V building in Northfield.
The Grade II listed building is an important landmark to local residents and as the video, which was taken in November 2020 shows – it has sadly fallen in to a state of disrepair.
The Northfield MP, Gary Sambrook said: “Last year I contacted the Planning Enforcement team at Birmingham City Council about the terrible state of the former King George V pub. At the time the Council contacted the owner who cleaned up the front, however since then it has become increasingly worse again, with even more graffiti.
“I have contacted the Enforcement team again about this, and an update is below:
The owner has been granted permission for 13 apartments, however since this was passed by Planning he has submitted a further application which would see the demolition of a single storey extension and for some internal and external alterations.
“The application was submitted in December and currently is waiting for a decision. This decision is expected to be made soon, and the owner has assured the Planning Department that the work will start almost immediately after consent has been given.
“The City Council have said they will pursue the matter further if the condition of the building isn’t improved once permission has been given.
“This building is iconic to many people across Northfield and it’s incredibly annoying that this beautiful building has been left in this condition for so long. I will be following up with the City Council on a regular basis to make sure the conditions are adhered to.”
