An off-duty nurse has been rewarded for helping save a man’s life as she travelled home from a night shift.
Eiren Carbery was driving home along the Bristol Road South when she saw a man had collapsed by the side of the road around 9am on 24th June last year.
She immediately stopped to help and commenced CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation – a particularly selfless act given the Covid pandemic and potential repercussions.
A police constable, on her way to work, also stopped and helped give CPR while Eiren managed to unblock the man’s airway. When paramedics arrived they managed to get a pulse and there is no doubt that Eiren’s actions helped prevent a time delay that could have been fatal.
Chief Constable Dave Thompson presented Eiren with a Chief Constable’s Good Citizens Award and a Royal Humane Society Award at a special presentation on 2nd December.
