West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died following a fight in Longbridge last night (Sunday 13th June).

The incident took place in Central Avenue at around 9.50pm when a 33 year old man was assaulted. He was taken to hospital but his condition deteriorated and he was sadly pronounced dead this morning.

West Midlands Police said that a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the precise cause of death and a specialist family liaison officer is supporting the man’s loved ones.

Detective Inspector Wes Martin from our Homicide Unit said: “We understand the man was with a couple of friends nearby when an argument started with a larger group of males.

“It appears to have escalated into a physical confrontation and led to the victim being chased into Central Avenue where he was attacked.

“We’ve seized CCTV and have spoken to some witnesses but I really need anyone who was there at the time and saw what happened to get in touch.

“I would also encourage the people involved in the fight to come forward at this early stage and explain what happened themselves.”
