West Midlands Railway (WMR) is inviting customers to a summer celebration this Friday 21st August, 10am – 3pm, at Birmingham New Street station.

Marking the final weeks of the summer holidays, families can enjoy seaside themed activities from free ice cream and carnival games to character meets and steel pan performances throughout the day. Facepainting, balloon making and candy floss are also on offer for anyone with a valid train ticket.

Visitors to Birmingham New Street will have the chance to have a photoshoot with the station’s famous bull – Ozzy. Named by public vote after Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, Ozzy was created for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He was unveiled at his new home at Birmingham New Street in 2023 and has since become a landmark for the city.

Denise Wetton, integrated managing director at GBR West Midlands, said: “We know the last few weeks of the summer holidays can often be the trickiest when you’ve got youngsters to entertain. That’s why we are excited to host our first summer event at New Street station this Friday.

“We’ll be bringing the fun of the seaside to the heart of Birmingham with plenty of free activities, treats and live music performances. And there’s even more to get involved with for those with a valid train ticket, giving our customers the chance to make some more summer memories before autumn begins.”
