The Castle Art Society (CAS) is a friendly community for Artists of all abilities to meet and share their passion with others.
The (CAS) offers a welcoming and supportive environment for artists of all ages and experience levels. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced painter, the society provides an opportunity to develop your skills, gain inspiration, and enjoy creating art alongside like-minded people.
When do they meet?
They meet every Friday from 10am to 1pm at Weoley Hill Village Hall, Weoley Hill (off Middle Park Road), Selly Oak, B29 4AR.
Sessions are relaxed and sociable, with members working in a wide variety of mediums including: watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels, and coloured pencils. Subjects range from landscapes and portraits to still life, allowing artists the freedom to explore their own interests.
A tea, coffee, and biscuit break at around 11am gives members the chance to chat, exchange ideas, and offer advice and encouragement to one another. The welcoming atmosphere makes the society an ideal place to improve your artistic skills while making new friends.
Throughout the year, the society organises a number of special events. Professional artists deliver demonstrations in March, June, September, and November, giving members the opportunity to learn new techniques. Non-members are welcome to attend these demonstrations for £5, while members can enjoy them free of charge. Towards the end of November, a practical workshop is also held, typically costing £25, providing hands-on tuition from professional artists.
CAS also hosts an annual summer exhibition, where members can showcase their artwork to the public and celebrate their achievements.
Membership costs £40, payable three times a year, with a one-off joining fee of £10. The society welcomes anyone with an interest in painting and encourages new members to come along and experience its friendly and creative atmosphere.
