West Midlands Police (WMP) are appealing for information after a teenager was stabbed in Birmingham city centre last night.

Officers were called to Victoria Square at around 8.30pm after a 17-year-old boy was found with life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.

It’s understood a fight broke out between two groups and the victim was stabbed.

WMP are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses as part of enquiries and a cordon remains in place while the area is forensically examined.

Detective Superintendent Lucy Kirwan, Birmingham Police, said: “We know this will cause concern to those living, working and visiting the city centre and we will have an increased presence in the area to offer reassurance.

“The incident happened at a busy time last night, and we know there were a lot of people in the area.

“If you have any mobile phone footage of what happened or can provide any information then please contact us.”
