Ability Life Opportunities has announced a new monthly inclusive community hub in Rubery.
The hub is designed to tackle isolation and loneliness among disabled people and those with mental health conditions across South Birmingham and North Worcestershire.
Rubery sits between two local authority areas, leaving many residents without easy access to disability or mental health meet-ups. Since Covid-19, this has left many people increasingly isolated, struggling to leave their homes, and missing out on social connection and vital community support.
The monthly hub will be held at St Chad’s Church in Rubery and provide a safe, welcoming space for residents to meet, socialise, and participate in activities designed to build friendships, confidence, and wellbeing. It also connects attendees to local services and advice, helping people feel part of their community again.
Thomas Sennett, spokesperson for Ability Life Opportunities, said: “This event is going to be genuinely life-changing for a lot of people. The level of isolation I see every day, especially among disabled people and those with mental health conditions, is heartbreaking. What’s missing is a real community opportunity — somewhere people can meet, feel safe, and actually thrive. This hub has been co-produced with disabled people, so it’s inclusive by design. It’s about giving people a place to belong and the chance to rebuild confidence and connection.”
