Mortons Funeral Directors are inviting the local community to remember their loved ones by writing Memorial Stars and placing them on their illuminated Tree of Light at their Northfield premises on Tuesday 2nd December, 4:30pm to 7:30pm, and Saturday 6th December, 10:00am to 4:00pm.
These special events are part of Mortons’ annual Tree of Light Memorial Service, an online service that brings families together in a shared moment of reflection at a meaningful time of year. The service is open to everyone and not only to those Mortons has cared for in the past.
This year’s Tree of Light Memorial Service will be available to watch online from Sunday 14th December at mortonstreeoflight.co.uk. The service includes reflections from the Mortons team, contributions from clergy and a civil celebrant, performances from a local choir, and traditional Christmas carols performed by The Salvation Army Band.

“We are honoured to welcome people to join us in person again this year to write and place their own Memorial Stars on our giant Christmas tree ahead of our Tree of Light Service. Our invitation is open to everyone, not just those families we have served in the past. We hope that writing a star, and the service itself, offer families an opportunity to come together to reflect and celebrate the lives of those they have loved and lost.”
For anyone unable to attend in person, memorial messages can be submitted online at
mortonstreeoflight.co.uk. Every message is carefully handwritten by a member of the Mortons team onto a perspex star and placed lovingly on the tree.
Last year, over 300 stars were written in person. Combined with those submitted online, more than 1,500 Memorial Stars adorned the Tree of Light.
While there is no charge to place a star, the Tree of Light Memorial Service supports
Birmingham Mind, and Mortons will also make a donation to the Salvation Army, Droitwich
Corps, in recognition of their contribution to the service.
