Local funeral director to host annual Tree of Light memorial service online

Mortons Funeral Directors invite people to submit memorial stars for lost loved ones ahead of a virtual memorial service, available to watch online from Sunday, 8th December.

Mortons Funeral Directors is once again hosting its annual Tree of Light memorial service. This heartfelt event invites everybody to honour and celebrate the lives of lost loved ones through a virtual memorial service.

In a touching tradition, all members of the community are encouraged to write personal messages for those they have lost on virtual memorial stars through Mortons’ website mortonstreeoflight.co.uk. Each memorial message is then carefully handwritten by the team at Mortons and placed on their giant Christmas Tree at their Northfield office.

The invitation to submit a memorial star or to watch the online service is not limited to those Mortons have made funeral arrangements for in the past. Last year saw an overwhelming response, with over 1,500 memorial stars submitted through the Mortons Tree of Light website.

This year, the first memorial stars were placed by the families of the Mortons team.

The First Memorial Stars:

Sarah Case, the managing director of Mortons Funeral Directors, said: “Throughout the year, we are privileged to serve families during some of their most difficult moments. Sometimes, of course, the loss of someone dear affects each of us here at Mortons, and the privilege of caring extends to members of our own team.”

This year, the first memorial stars on our Tree of Light were written by the families of our colleges here at Mortons.

“Writing these stars allows us to reflect on those we have loved and lost and deepens our understanding of the grief and memories carried by every family we serve.”

Over the last 16 years, the Tree of Light Memorial Service has raised over £16,000 for charity. While there is no charge to place a star, Mortons provides a link to their chosen charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and will also make a contribution to the Salvation Army – Droitwich Corps as a token of gratitude for their support.
