A teenage girl sustained “potentially serious injuries” after being involved in a collision with a car in Northfield this lunchtime (Tuesday 3rd September). The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of Class A drugs.
The incident, involving one car and one pedestrian, happened at the junction of Bell Hill and Sir Herbert Austin Way just before 1pm.
A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: “We were called to a collision at the junction of Saxon Wood Close and Bell Lane in Northfield, Birmingham, at around 12.50pm today. Officers found a child had been hit by a car, and she was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of Class A drugs. He was taken to hospital for assessment, and will be questioned in due course. The road remains closed while enquiries are ongoing.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed they were called at 12.50 pm and two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.
A WMAS spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a pedestrian, a teenage girl, who had been involved in a collision with a car. The girl sustained potentially serious injuries and received treatment on scene before being conveyed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further checks. The driver of the car, a man, was assessed and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further checks.”
Traffic around the Isaac Tongue junction was halted while ambulance, fire and police services dealt with the incident.
