Jobseekers in south Birmingham are being invited to sign up to a free course to boost their chances of securing and staying in work.
Bournville Village Trust (BVT), Birmingham Adult Education Service and Birmingham City Council are working together to put on the pre-employment course from September.
It will support people looking for work to develop their IT skills, build their confidence, manage their wellbeing and stress, and become work ready.
At the end of the three-week course, participants will also have a review to plan their next steps and be introduced to local employers.
The course will take place at Shenley Court Hall, 200 Green Meadow Road, B29 4ED, from 23rd September-11th October. To check eligibility and to sign up, jobseekers are invited to come along to an open day at the Hall on 17th September from 9.30am-12.30pm.
Elaine Li, Community Development and Involvement Manager at Bournville Village Trust, said: “We know from speaking with people in our communities who are looking for work how difficult it can be to find a job and manage in the workplace once you have one.
“This is why it is so important to us to work with Birmingham Adult Education Service and the City Council to put on this fantastic course. It will not only give those looking for work the vital skills and confidence they need to find a job but also the techniques to manage stress and succeed in the workplace.”
To take part in the pre-employment course you must be 19 years old or over, have lived in the UK/EU for three years and be able to attend every day of the three-week course. For more information and to book on to the open assessment day on 17th September at Shenley Court Hall, please email sch@bvt.org.uk
The pre-employment course follows a number of success activities and events at Shenley Court Hall aimed at supporting job-seekers, including a jobs fair in July that attracted nearly 130 people. BVT is hoping to develop a permanent Learning Hub within the Hall to support job seekers.
