Home shopping driver Derek from ASDA’s Great Bridge store was on one of his first calls after recovering from a heart attack when he saved the life of a regular customer.
Derek didn’t get a response when he rang the bell and knocked on the door of the elderly lady’s home in the Bartley Green, so when he looked through the front window and saw her lying on the living room floor he immediately called 999.
He later discovered she’d been there for two days.
The lady’s since made a good recovery and rang the store to thank Derek for his actions.
Derek said: “A few weeks later I was delivering to that vicinity so I thought I’d knock on her door to see if she was back at home. She opened the door straight away which was nice to see. She said to me ‘I don’t think I’d be here if you hadn’t have noticed’. So it was a good outcome. She’s a lovely old lady and we always have a chat when I call round.”
