West Midlands Ambulance Service have confirmed today that a cyclist suffered serious injuries and received advanced trauma care following a collision with a van in South Road, Northfield yesterday (Thursday 11th July).
A spokeswoman for the service said this morning: “Upon arrival, we found a man who was the cyclist being cared for by bystanders. He was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained serious injuries.
“Ambulance staff administered advanced trauma care to him at the scene and he was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”
“No further patients required treatment.”
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

Traffic around Northfield was brought to a standstill during rush hour today (Thursday 11 July) after a collision on Bristol Road South.
The collision – between a cyclist and a van – happened on the A38 near the South Road junction at around 4.30pm.
In a statement to Birmingham Live, a West Midlands Police spokesman said that a male cyclist had been taken to hospital with ‘injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.’
He said: “We were called to South Road, Northfield, shortly after 4.30pm today (Thurs) after a collision between a cyclist and a van.
“A man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.”
Bristol Road South remained closed southbound between Quarry Lane and South Road into the evening, with knock-on traffic queues building up on all roues through Northfield.
