A local family are appealing for information after a cat was left with life-threatening injuries following an attack by two dogs in the driveway of their Rubery home.
On Saturday 20th July, Mog – who is cared for by the Hewson family and neighbours – was sitting on their driveway in Callowbrook Lane when a woman with two dogs walked passed. The vicious attack was caught on CCTV – the distressing footage can be viewed at the bottom of the page.
One of the dogs was off-lead and ran onto the drive, grabbing Mog and running off with him. The second on-lead dog joined in the attack before the woman could drag him away. The off-lead dog continued to attack Mog until the woman eventually brought both dogs back under control.

Following the incident, Mog disappeared for two days. On his return, he was taken straight to Townsend Vets in Bromsgrove.
Sarah Hewson told the Bromsgrove Advertiser: “The vet had no idea how he’d managed to survive until Monday without any help. They told me he should be dead. He has severe damage to his liver and he now needs special medication.
“He has puncture wounds all over his body and severe bruising on his stomach. He also sustained a secondary respiratory infection and had to have a procedure to insert a tube into his stomach for food.”
After treatment running into thousands of pounds, Mog is slowly on the mend. Asked for an update today (Tuesday 30th July), Rod Hewson said: “Mog is a little better – a long way to go but he’s defied the odds and vets are amazed he’s survived.”
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police confirmed they were investigating: “We received a call around 10.15pm on Sunday (July 21) with a report of an owner’s cat being attacked by a dog on Callowbrook Lane in Rubery.
“An investigation is now ongoing. We are unable to confirm the breed.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting log number 495 of 21/07/2024. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org
