A pedestrian and a dog have sadly died after being involved in a collision with a car on a major south Birmingham commuter route this morning (Monday 24th June).
The tragic collision happened at around 8.45am in West Boulevard. The female pedestrian was earlier reported by West Midlands Poilice to have sustained serious injuries.
Further updates from police and West Midland Ambulance Service (WMAS) this afternoon confirm that the woman, in her 20s, died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency workers and passersby. The dog she was walking was also injured and sadly died.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “A 20-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was confirmed dead a short time later. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this devastating time.
“A dog she was walking at the time was also injured and sadly died.”
The driver remained at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. The collision happened between Barnes Hill and Quinton Road West and officers are keen to hear from anyone who can assist their investigation.
The spokeperson said: “We’re particularly interested in hearing from anybody who was travelling in the area and has dash cam footage.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed: “[We] sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found the pedestrian, a woman, in a critical condition.
“Bystanders were providing basic life support and ambulance crews immediately took over to administer advanced life support.
“Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, she could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A pedestrian has been left seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a car on a major south Birmingham commuter route this morning (Monday 24th June).
The collision happened at around 8.45am in West Boulevard. The female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.
A spokesperson person for West Midlands Police confirmed: “We were called to a collision involving a pedestrian and a car in West Boulevard, Quinton, at just before 8.45am today (24 June).
”A woman sustained serious injuries.
”The driver remained at the scene and is currently helping with our enquiries.”
West Boulevard remains closed between Barnes Hill and Quinton Road West and police are asking people to avoid the area.
